Cornelis DeHart

b. circa 1670
  • Perhaps born circa 1670.
  • Also known as Cornelis de Hardt.2
  • Cornelis DeHart witnessed the baptism of Simon Cornelisz Van Sise , son of Cornelis Joosten and Catherine DeHart, on 18 January 1694 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, New York, (witnesses Cornelis de Hardt, Annetje de Hardt).2
  • Albert L. Stokes states that little has been found regarding Cornelius. He places him as the eldest son of Simon Aersen. He would have been named for his mother's father. Cornelis witnesses the baptism of a nephew in January 1694, and the co-sponsor was a Annetje de Haerdt, who may have possibly been his wife, although the baptism record does not specifically state that. Early accounts of the DeHart family in New Jersey claim that Cornelis was among the early settlers along the "Old Indian Path." This was the old road that divided Somerset from Middlesex County. Stokes assigns a "supposed" son name Cornelius to Cornelis DeHart (son of Simon DeHart).3
