Madaleen Dirckse1,2

b. circa 1636
  • Madaleen Dirckse was probably born circa 1636 at New Amsterdam.3
  • She married Cornelis Hendricksen van Dort at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, on 24 October 1652 "Cornelis Hendrickszen, Van Dort, en Magdaleen Dircks, van N. Amsterd."4

  • Also known as Magdalena Dircks.2,7
  • On 16 November 1655 at New Amsterdam, "Whereas Madaleen Dircksen, widow of Cornelis Hendricksen of Dort, has refused to accept the guardians, appointed by the Orphanmasters, and whereas up to date no inventory of the estate has been taken," the Orphan Masters allow her to state her reasons for refusing the appointed guardians and to state who she prefers to be appointed as guardians. The widow states that she refuses Jan Vinje "because he is her adversary and has never had any conversation with her or her late husband, while Hendrick Kip is in no wise a relative or friend." She requests that Abraham Verplanck and Andries de Haes be appointed as guardians. The request is granted.8
  • Madaleen Dirckse witnessed the baptism of Jacob Losier , son of François Le Seuer and Jannatie Hildebrand, on 26 July 1665 at Old Dutch Church, Kingston, Ulster Co., New York, (sponsors Jan Joosten, Maddeleen Dircks).9

  • In 1697, she and her son Alexander as executors deeded a plot of Mombaccus land to Moses Du Puy, Alexander's future father-in-law. In 1699, she filed a petition for confirmation of land grants made to her deceased husband during his lifetime. In a year unspecified but apparently later than 1703, she and Marianus Van Aken applied for a warrent of survey for a piece of land on the south side of Rondout Kill in Rochester township.14
  • In 1703 she made her seventh and last recorded appearance as witness at Kingston Church for the baptism of her daughter Christina Kortright's first child.14
  • Madaleen Dirckse was living in January 1726; when her unmarried daughter Sara, making her will, devised her property to her "dear mother Magdalena Rosenkrans" as tenant for life. She would have survived her husband by thirty-three years or more.14
