  • Charlie Ebbets bought his first shares in the Brooklyn baseball team in 1890. He eventually owned 10% of the company ane was elected President in 1897. In 1900 purchased 30% of the Dodgers stock from Baltimore's Henry Von der Horst and became principal owner of the team. In 1905 he bought out co-owner Ned Hanlon who had wanted to move the team to Baltimore. In 1912 he began construction on a stadium which opened on 9 Apr 1913 in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn at 55 Sullivan Place on a lot formerly known as Pigtown. Ebbets Field was the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers through the end of the 1957 season. It was demolished in 1960 and the site currently is the location of the Jackie Robinson Apartments.5

On 23 Aug 1700, Daniel Ebbets, bricklayer, was made a Freeman of New York City. On 3 Jun 1703, "Mr. Ebbets, bricklayer," was selected to work on the steeple and other parts of Trinity Church. In the spring of 1704 he was to be paid by the city council for "bricklayers work in the fort." In Nov 1704 he petitioned the governor for this payment. Later, in 1723, Daniel Ebbets, mason, estimated repairs needed in the fort's chapel.
    Daniel Ebbets is on the 1703 census for New York City, in the West Ward, with a household of two adult males (16 to 60) and one female. He is on the New York City Assessment Rolls from 1700 to 1727.1
