By 1845 he was engaged in manufactoring oilcloth as well as in printing it. In 1847 he purchased a home at 183 Gold Street, Brooklyn. His business propsered through the 1850's, but his decision to expand at the time of the Civil War cost him. Unable to meet his bank laon obligations, Abraham's business was foreclosed on, and the property he put up as collateral was lost. He was able to purchase a small farm and house in rural Belleville, New Jersey with what remained and he relocated his family there. Brkl. Jul 4, 1761.This is confirmed in the Stoutenburgh Genealogy also. In this regard, I believe that Hoffman is in error and that the Elizabeth Ellsworth who married Abijah Whitney was the daughter of Christopher Ellsworth and Sarah Brower and not a William Ellsworth and Sarah Brower. Abijah was the son of Daniel Whitney and Thankful Burt. Also, Abijah's and Elizabeth's children were: in the following order: (1) Daniel; (2) John; (3) Jeremiah; (4) Mary; (5) Charity; (6) Joel; (7) Sarah; (8) Abigail; (9) Morris Fought; (10) James B.; (11) Abijah Ann. -- no Elizabeth! Randolph, NYGBR Vol. 64: (Apr 1933) pp. 154-166; and (Jul 1933) pp. 255-267, on p. 267 it states that this William Elsworth, Jr., bp. 1733, married (license Oct. 5, 1756, NYM:128) Oct. 10, 1756 (MDC:193), Hendrika Stoutenburgh, sister of Tobias Stoutenburgh, baker (WNYHS-XII:416), and does not show a daughter Elizabeth bo. (Note: Sarah was probably very young when her mother Elizabeth Hilton died and before Christopher married Charity Stillwell in 1747 - - and thus raised by Charity. WBB)". Hereinafter cited as "Wm.
