It states that he left Herkimer Co., New York at age 17, logged in Michigan and Wisconsin, in 1872 went to Utah during a gold rush, "found a bonanza," a mine that produced over three million dollars in three years, sold the mine for $750,000 and moved to San Francisco. He spent time in Minneapolis and Ames, Iowa before heading back to California in 1883, settling in Los Angeles and finally Orange, California.¹

In 1835 they left Ohio and settled in Knox Co., Illinois, with their sons Jacob, Joseph and Jesse Emery. Conrad Emery's home was one of the farms which was withdrawn in August 1835, to form Stark Co., Illinois, and he is therefore concidered the progenitor of the Starck County Emery family. The farm, which he purchased at Congress prices, consisted of 240 acres, and here he remained until his death."⁴
