  • Obediah Embody's obituary appeared on 20 April 1922 in the Orange Daily News, Orange, California. "The passing of Obadiah Embody takes from our midst one of our oldest Western Pioneers..." It states that he left Herkimer Co., New York at age 17, logged in Michigan and Wisconsin, in 1872 went to Utah during a gold rush, "found a bonanza," a mine that produced over three million dollars in three years, sold the mine for $750,000 and moved to San Francisco. He spent time in Minneapolis and Ames, Iowa before heading back to California in 1883, settling in Los Angeles and finally Orange, California.1

The surname has been spelled variously as Humerich, Humrich, Hummerich, Hemmerich, Emerich, Himry, Hemry, Emry and Henry. Descendants are found with the surname, Emery.1
  • On 15 April 1752 Conrad Emery purchased 147 acres of land in Readington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey from Joseph Kirkbride.2

  • In 1970, Frederic B. Emery produced "Conrad Emery and His Descendants," a self-published, 306 page (including index) account of the descendants of Conrad Emery and his sons. The descendants of Conrad's three daughters (at least two were married) are not covered. The youngest son, William Emery, is covered very briefly.1

In 1835 they left Ohio and settled in Knox Co., Illinois, with their sons Jacob, Joseph and Jesse Emery. Conrad Emery's home was one of the farms which was withdrawn in August 1835, to form Stark Co., Illinois, and he is therefore concidered the progenitor of the Starck County Emery family. The farm, which he purchased at Congress prices, consisted of 240 acres, and here he remained until his death."4
