- John Henry Gesner is on the list of signers of the Orangetown Resolution of 1775, but he appears to have not taken any part in the Revolutionary War. The Gesners of Nova Scotia and New York, pp.20-21 gives an account of events during this period that effected John Henry Gesner's life. He lived at Nyack, New York and ran a pettiauger on the Hudson River. Some unfavorable encounters with the British, who confiscated his boat, forced Gesner and his family to remove to New York City for some time, where he worked in a saw-mill. After the war the family went to Nova Scotia, but returned to Nyack, New York sometime prior to 1797.4
- John Gesner was deposed on 17 Sep 1832 in Rockland County, New York before Peter Smith, J.P. of Orange town, "in which place John Gesner lives." John Gesner states that he is 83 years old and is the legal son of Famaiche, the daughter of Adolph Brower, sister of Nicholas. He states that according to "frequent and repeated conversations of his parents and relatives inhis younger days and according to his best knowledge and memory doth believe that said Adolph Brower was the son of Jacob or Jacobus Brower and Annette Bogardus."5
