He appears to have been still a resident of Fairfield, however.In 1696 Avis (or Aevis) of Fairfield CT, wife of John Appelgate, as his attorney, sold land in Gravesend to Joseph Goulding.On 18 January 1703/4 John Williams and Theophilus Hull of Fairfield conveyed to Mr. John Applegate one half of the long lot formerly belonging to Samuel Ward deceased.He signed his name "John Appelgate."The will of John Applegate of Fairfield is dated 13 November 1704, inventory taken 25 December 1712. On 24 January 1712/1713, Mr. John Meredith of Newport, RI swore to the will. It mentions wife Avis; children of brother Thomas. On 6 February 1716/1717, administration was granted to Joseph Applegate, Avis being deceased. The heirs are the children of Thomas Appelgate of Middletown, Monmouth County, East Jersey, viz: Thomas, John, Daniel, Joseph, Banjamin and Richard Applegate.
- In 1656 John Applegate resided at Gravesend, Long Island.3
- He bought land and a house at Fairfield as early as 1663 from Mary Macock. He purchased from Samuel Forman in 1667, and from John Pell in 1671.2
