Matthys Cornelisen would become the second husband of Evert's widow. "Ephraim" is not a name found among Dutch families, and may be an error for Evert.⁶
• The Bergen Co., New Jersey Van Gelder family descends from Evert Hendricksen, who is of undetermined origin. He was a resident of Brooklyn in the last quater of the seventeenth century. In records found, Evert never used the name Van Gelder as a surname, although since his time his descendants have used it. It may have been a family name back in the Netherlands, or it may have been adopted because they came from Gelderland. His son Jacob was the first known to use Van Gelder as a surname.¹⁰

Ledley and B-Ann Moorhouse in "Early Dutch Smiths and Van Boerums," NYGBR 103 (1972): 77, follow Randolph and do not dispute the placement, noting that Hendrick was "also known as Hendrick Hendricksen (using his father's patronymic as a surname, a common practice of the time)."
