- Epke Jacobse was born before 1632 at probably near Harlingen, Friesland, The Netherlands.
- He died after 23 October 1686.
- Descendants adopted the name Banta.
- Epke Jacobse, from Harlengen, farmer, came to New Netherland in Feb 1659 aboard De Trouw, Jan Jansen Bestevaer, skipper. He paid passage for himself, his wife, and five sons aged 3/4, 2, 3, 4, and 6 years. In New Netherland hes settled first at Flushing, Long Island, and was residing there in 1669. Prior to 1675 he moved to Bergen County, New Jersey, and in 1681 purchased land at Hackensack. The identity of his wife has not been discovered. She did come to New Netherland and possibly died during the period when the family lived in Flushing. She is not mentioned in any existing record. The last mention of Epke Jacobse name is in the Procedures of the Governor and Council of the Province of East Jersey, dated 23 October 1686.3

Ledley and B-Ann Moorhouse in "Early Dutch Smiths and Van Boerums," NYGBR 103 (1972): 77, follow Randolph and do not dispute the placement, noting that Hendrick was "also known as Hendrick Hendricksen (using his father's patronymic as a surname, a common practice of the time)." Neither Randolph or Ledley and Moorhouse, identify a first wife for Hendrick.3
