Catelina Bandt1

b. 28 November 1744
  • Father*: Peter Bandt1
  • Mother*: Helena Benson1
  • Catelina Bandt was baptized on 28 November 1744 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, New York.1
  • She married Henry Godwin circa 1771 probably in the Schraalenburgh, New Jersey area.1
  • Also known as Catharina Banta.2
  • After her husband's death, Catelina remained in Fishkill until 1789. On 8 May 1789 she sold to John Wyckoff, farmer, a parcel described as "156 1/2 acres on the Wappinger's Creek, adjoining the lands of John Hueston and Teunis Brinkerhoff" (Dutchess Co. Deeds 11:159).
In November 1786 she applied for bounty lands from the State of New York. On 6 July 1790 a patent was issued to Captain Henry Godwin, and delivered to his widow, for Lot No. 11 in the Township of Homer, Lot No. 156 in the Township of Hannibal, and Lot No. 63 in the Township of Scipio, each lot containing 600 acres.
She had since moved back to New Jersey. In 1790 "Callina Banta, widow of Henry Godwin" was admitted to the Schraalenburgh Dutch Reformed Church.
Her maiden name is incorrectly given as Demorest in a newspaper clipping found in the Family Bible, and in D.A.R. Lineage Book entries regarding Henry Godwin, which had apparently relied on the newspaper clipping. The newspaper clipping mentions her son Abraham G. Godwin living at Broadalbin, Montgomery Co., New York. Sometime before 1810, Abraham moved to Homer, New York.3
  • Catelina Bandt witnessed the baptism of Henry Godwin Brouwer , son of Johannes Brouwer and Phoebe Godwin, on 9 June 1793 at Dutch Reformed Church, Schraalenburgh, Bergen Co., New Jersey, (sponsor Catharina Bant, widow of Henry Godwin).2
