Matthys is the ancestor of the Lane families of Monmouth, Somerset and Hunterdon counties, New Jersey.4,7

  • On 31 March 1683 Recorded in Kings County Deeds, Lib. 1, page 18, an agreement by which Aryantie, the widow of Matthys/Tys Janssen Lanen, is to make payment from the estate of her late husband to his six children, four hundred guilders each. Signing are Jan Van Dyck (husband of daughter Tuentje), Tunis Lanen (brother of Mattys) and Hendrick Matthysen Smack as guardian for sons Jan and Jacob, Touis Jaeresse (sic, Teunis Idense, husband of daughter Jannetje), and sons Hendrick Tyson and Gysbert Tyson. Not mentioned as children are: daughter Annetje, daughter Lysbeth or son Pieter (all of whom are stated to be children of Thys Jansen Lane by A. Van Dorn Honeyman in SCHQ 2:116-119). On 15 October 1687, receipt of payment is acknowledged by all of the above mentioned as being received from Cornelius Mynhart (sic, Cornelius Wynhart).5

He took the oath of allegiance at Bushwick in 1687, stating that he had been in this country for 15 years. He appears to have settled on Staten Island in about 1698 and is recorded on 20 Jul 1718 at the Port Richmond Church as a sponsor at a baptism.5
  • Adrian LaForge was a member of the at Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, Flatbush, Kings Co., Long Island, New York, on 7 September 1687 at Midwood.2
  • Nicholas LaForge is said to be a son of Adrian LaForge as per Andrew J. Provoost in Early Settlers of Bushwick. However, it is apparent that Adrian Laforge and Jannetje Losee had a son named Nicholas who was born much earlier.6

  • He probably lived for a time at Flatlands, Long Island for on 21 Nov 1670 he bought a horse of James Hubbard of Gravesend. He is on the assessment roll of Gravesend in 1683. In 1700 he was Captain of the Militia. In 1694 he bought of Hannah, widow of John Delavall of Pennsylvania, for £164, a house and forty acres on Hogg's Neck in Gravesend. On 6 May 1696, he and Joakim Gulick, had a survey of 85 acres at Smoking Point, with nine acres at the mouth of the Fresh Kill on Staten Island. In 1714 he was an Elder in the Gravesend Dutch Reformed Church.5
