The mark of Jacob Luyersz, made by himself. Witnesses: Jan Louresen, Jacob H. Kip.3
  • Jacob Luyersz (Luijersz) was in Rensselaerwyck before October 19, 1651, being ordered on that day to fulfil the terms of his contract with Jochem, the baker. March 2, 1652, Claesje, the negro girl of Sander Leendertsz, testified that she had delivered some of the goods which she stole from her master to Jacob Luyersz, who promised to take her to the Manhattans and there get her a husband.4,5

    The female Negro is ordered to depart within the space of four days, on account of the false accusations brought against the fair name of the plaintiffs, either to the island of Cornelis Segertsz, or elsewhere, provided that she shall present the bill for the costs of the suit to the persons with whom the female Negro shall come to live and cause the same to be paid to the plaintiffs, but the aforesaid plaintiffs are ordered promptly to pay the court messenger what is due him.7
  • On 11 June 1652 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyersz, plaintiff, against Jacob Flodder, defendant, for slander.
    The defendant is ordered to pay the presiding officer a sum of twelve guilders by way of fine and for the poor six guilders, since the aforesaid defendant declared that he has nothing to say to the dishonor of the plaintiff, as he has done.7
  • On 18 June 1652 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyers, appearing before the court, requests a place for a house, one board in length, on the spot where his present house stands. After deliberation it is resolved to grant his request and that later a garden will be assigned to him for his convenience.8
  • On 18 March 1653 at Fort Orange, Pieter Rijverdingh, plaintiff, against Jacob Luyersz and Jan Machielsz, defendants, for messenger fees amounting to f18:15:-.
    Defendants say that Sander Leendertsen must pay the same according to the judgement previously rendered by this court.
    Ordered that the plaintiff may cite the parties or Sander Leendertsen to appear on the next court day.9
  • On 14 October 1653 at Fort Orange, Commissary Dijkman, nomine officio, plaintiff, against Jacob Luyersz, defendant, on account of an assault commited on the 9th of this month on the public street upon the plaintiff and the Heer Slechtenhorst (Brant Aertsz van Slichtenhorst, director of Rensselaerswijck from 1648 to 1652).
    Case adjourned until the next court day. Meanwhile the plaintiff is requested to present his written complaint and demand, the defendant being sent home to file his answer on the next court day.10
  • On 9 December 1653 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyersz, being summoned and informed of the complaint and demand of the officer, nomine officio, on account of the assault committed in the stree, appeals to the personal appearance of the Heer Slichtenhorst before the court.
    Resolved, to request the Heer Slichtenhorst to consent to appear on the next court day, in order to proceed upon a surer foundation.11
  • On 10 February 1654 at Fort Orange, "Upon resumption of the matter, it is resolved to adjourn the case of Jacob Luyersz, delinquent, for mischief commited on the street, until the arrival of the hon. director general, for reasons submitted and known to this court."12
  • On 31 March 1654 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyersen, being summoned by the court to pay to the treasurers the fifteen guilders levied on every house pursuant to the resolution, has requested eight days grace, which are granted him, when he must propmptly pay the aforesaid sum to the treasurers.13
  • On 31 March 1654 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyersen is notified that he must file his answer to the written complaint of the officer sent to his house by order of the court (Fort Orange), on or before the next court day.14
  • On 21 April 1654 at Fort Orange, Jacob Luyersz being summoned by the court on account of previous misdemeanors, the court, for various reasons known to them, have resolved to pardon the aforesaid person with reference to the misdemeanor commited by him anf the heretofore-mentioned abusive words spoken to the officer.
    The defendant appearing in court has begged forgiveness and stated that he knows of the commissary and Officer Dijkman and his wife but what is honorable and virtuous. He is condemned, however, for assault commited on the public street to pay the officer at once a fine of 25 guilders, for the benefit of Officer Dijkman.15
  • On 12 May 1654 at Fort Orange, Machiel Rijckertsen is condemned to pay four guilders to the officer for having last day of prayer sar drinking at the house of Jacob Luyersen during divine service.16
  • On 28 September 1654 at Fort Orange, Marten Ottensen, commonly called Swager Merten, is interrogated by the Honorable Court and is asked whether or not he had been at the house of Jacob Luyersz, where Cornelis de Sweet, now sailing in de Karreman, was present and on what day? Merten's answer was, yes, and he was there about the 25th of this month.17

  • On 9 January 1657 at Fort Orange, The officer of the court at Fort Orange (Albany, New York), as protector of the rights of orphans, objects to the delivery (Rutger Jacobsen, plaintiff, demanded delivery of Claes Teunissen's house in payment of a sum due to him by Jacob Luyersen, deceased), and requests that curators be appointed to preserve the rights of the surviving children of Jacob Luyersen, deceased.19
  • On 6 February 1657 at Fort Orange, Rutger jacobsen, plaintiff, against Claes teunissen, defendent. The court, having heard the parties, orders the curators appointed to administer the estate of Jacob Luyersen, deceased, to appear before the magistrates tomorrow at nine o'clock.20
  • On 7 February 1657 at Fort Orange, Jan Verbeecke and Evert Wendels, chosen curators of the estate of the surviving children of Jacob Luyersen, deceased, who accepted the said office...the court having considered the need of orphan masters in this place (Fort Orange)...appointed them (Jan Verbeecke and Evert Wendels) orphan masters to take charge of all estates which (otherwise) would remain uncared for through the death of the husband or wife.21
  • On 20 March 1657 at Fort Orange, The curators of the estate of Jacob Luyersen, deceased, plaintiffs, against Willem Janssen Stoll, defendent. The plaintiffs demand payment of the sum of f101:-, in which the defendent is found to be indebted on the books of Jacob Lyersen, deceased. The defendent claims that he paid of this amount to Pieter Bronck, for the widow of Jacob Luyersen, deceased, the sum of eighty guilders. The court orders the defendent to bring proof of his payment on the next court day.22
  • On 4 July 1657 at Fort Orange, Marcelus Janssen, plaintiff, against Trijntje Kooninckx, defendant. The plaintiff demands payment of a certain sum arising from the tapster's exice. The defendant says that the administrators of the estate have been appointed to whom the plaintiff must apply. The court refers the plaintiff to the curators appointed to administer the estate of Jacob Luyer, deceased, to obtain payment.23
  • On 18 July 1657 at Fort Orange, Terms and conditions on which the trustees of the estate of Jacob Luyerson propose to sell the house of the late Jacob Luyersen, with the lot of the same lying next to Fort Orange, according to the patent thereof...after much bidding, Hendrick Janssen Van Wytert remained the last bidder, for the sum of eight hundred and thirteen guilders, according to the aforesaid conditions.24
  • On 22 January 1658 at Fort Orange, Goosen Gerritsen, plaintiff, against Claes Teunissen, defendant. The plaintiff demands payment of a promissory not of f848 on which f271:14 has been received. He requests payment of the balance. The defendant says that the debt was contracted not in his time, but in the time of his wife's former husband, Jacob Luyersen, deceased, and maintains that the plaintiff must not sue him, but the curators, for payment. The court orders that the plaintiff must sue the curators appointed to administer the estate of Jacob Luyersen, deceased, for payment.25

    Of his children, Luur is certain as per his baptism record, while Jakomyntie is probable based upon her patronymic and baptism sponsorships. In 1654, as per the Court records of Fort Orange, guardians were appointed to oversee the inheritance interests of the deceased Jacob Luyersen's children (plural). There may be additional children for Jacob and his wife Styntje Douwes, who were married in 1638, that have yet to be identified.
