  • Daniel McDowell was born on 13 November 1763 at Stroudsburg, (now Monroe Co.), Pennsylvania.4
  • He married Ruth Drake, daughter of Samuel Drake and Sarah Handy, in 1786.5
  • Daniel McDowell died on 28 November 1806 at Chemung, Tioga Co., New York; "at the age of 43."6,7,8
  • He was buried at Riverside Cemetery, Chemung, Chemung Co., New York.2,8
  • He was a Revolutionary War soldier. Serving as a private in Col. Stroud's Regiment of Frontier Rangers (Pennsylvania Archives, 3rd Series, vol. 23). On 12 Sep 1782 he was captured by Indians at Shawnee on the Delaware, and was led as a captive through the Chemung Valley to Niagara.9
  • In the spring of 1786, Daniel McDowell came with a group headed by Maj. William Wynkoop who became the first settlers in what is now Chemung County, New York. Daniel McDowell was granted parcels 4 and 5.10
