The following day a number of members of this Loyalist group that had previously been apprehended were ordered jailed, including Jacob Backer and Dominicus Muntfort, who upon examination also mentioned John and Francis Palmatier (while downplaying their own involvment). It seems that the party of Loyalists was unssuccesful in their attempt to join the British forces, and nothing more is mentioned of the incident in later minutes of the Commission.⁴

On 16 Jan 1723/24 the property of Machel Parmante Jun in Dutchess County was valued at £5, on which he was assessed a 5 pence tax. On 28 March 1726, Michael and his brother Damen purchased the southern-most two thirds of their father's land along the Hudson River for £500. On the 25 Jan 1726/27 tax assessment his property was valued at £10, and his tax increased to 3 shillings 4 pence. On 2 Feb 1735/36, the two brothers transferred the southwest corner of the land they had acquired from their father to Abraham De Graaf, their sister Lysbet's husband. On 1 April 1748, Michael and his brother Damen divided the land they had obtained from their father into two equal pieces along a line that ran just north of their father's former dwelling. Michael, "of Beekman Precinct in the County of Dutchess," took the southern portion, while Damen "of Poghkeepsie Precinct in Dutchess County," took the northern section. It can be assumed that Michael had moved to Beekman by this time, and on the following day, 2 April 1748, Michael and his wife Mary, sold their portion to Michael Pels, oldest son of Michael's sister, Sophia. The price was £120, but the indenture also required that Michael Pels and his heirs must pay annually to Michael Parmentier and his heirs and assignees forever, "the Quantity of Ten Quarts of Good Sweet Winters Wheat."⁵

In 1687, Michael Parmentier was a freeholder and inhabitant in the Patent of the Town of Boswick. He took the oath of allegiance in Kings County in late Sept. 1687, called Michiel Palmentier of Boswijck. On 27 Dec. 1689, Michiel Palmiter was commissioned a Lieut. in the provincial militia by Lt. Gov. Leisler. Machiell Palmatier of Bushwick deeded his Bushwick grist mill, near the property of Jacques Fontayne, and land including a "small slip of meadow and Island" in Bushwick to Capser Jansen Smith and Mattyse Demaree of Boswyck on 1 March 1694/95. He was enumerated on the Kings County census taken about 1698 as Michiel Parmentier F (the F for French) with a family of two men, one woman, five children and two slaves. On 24 April 1699, Machiell Parmentier of Bushwick agreed to defend Gerrett Van Couvenhoven and Claes Folkertsen should they be sued by Jonica Copaal or her heirs. On 6 May 1699, Michiaell Palmentier of Boswyck bought from Robert Sanders and Myndert Harmansz a large piece of land fronting the Hudson River at a place called Wareskeech by the Indians, "or otherwise called in English the Old Mill Valley or meadow" in present day Dutchess County. The property included timber, swamps, meadows, marshes, rivers and rivulets, and lakes, including rights for fishing and fowling. He purchased a second parcel of land including a "hollow or valley," on the southern boundary of his first purchase, also from Sanders and Harmensz on 4 April 1700. This land became known as "Old Magiel's Landing" (it is now the northwest corner of the town of Poughkeepsie, New York). As Michill Parmyter he appears as a lieutenant in the 1700 militia of New York in the foot company at Boswick. He and his family apparently moved to Dutchess County by 5 July 1702, when the youngest daughter was baptized at Kingston. On 9 April 1707, "Michael Parmentier of Dutchess Co. and Neltye his wife," participated in the disposal of her late father's estate. The family is on the 1714 Dutchess County census. Maghell Pallmatir was above 60, his wife below 60, with a household of one male under 16, two males 16-59, two females under 16, and a male and female slave. Eldest son Peter had a household nearby. The Dutch Church at Poughkeepsie and Fishkill was organized in 1716, and Michael Parmentier and Peter DuBois were installed on 10 Oct. 1716 as the first elders of the Poughkeepsie church. Son Peter was installed as one of the first deacons. On 28 March 1726, when about 73 years old, Michael transferred two-thirds of his land to his sons Michael and Damen for £500. He last appeared on the tax list of Poughkeepsie in 1738/39, when he would have been aged about 85. His wife appeared as a "widow" on the 1740/41 tax list, about age 87. She was last on the tax list in 1741/42 and by 1748 Michael and Neeltje Parmentier's house was referred to as the "late dwelling house of...Magiel Palmatier, Senior and now in the possession of Magiel Pels" (his grandson).²

The land was later referred to in surveyor records as P.P. Landing. Peter is on the 1714 census of Dutchess County with a female 16-59, two boys under 16, and three girls under 16. Peter Parmentier, with Elias Van Benschoten, were elected the first deacons of the Poughkeepsie Reformed Church when it was formed on 10 Oct 1716. Peter Parmante is listed among the residents and freeholders of Dutchess County on 16 Jan 1723/24. He became an elder of the Dutch Reformed Church in 1724, and remained elder through 1731. Peter Parmanter was elected a Supervisor of the Middle Ward of Dutchess County on 4 April 1727, and is found on the tax rolls there through 4 Jan 1728/29. On 1 April 1729 he was elected tax collector for the Middle Ward. Either he, or his son Peter, was listed as a freeholder of Dutchess County about 1740. On 29 Dec 1743, either Peter, or his son, along with Frans La Roy, Pieter Viele and Michael Pels received a letter from Henry Beekman, pledging the latter's help in resolving the boundary dispute between the land that Peter's father Michael purchased from Sanders and Harmensen and the Nine Partner's patent at Crum Elbow, which was a difficult legal matter.⁷

It states, "Pierre Parmentie out of Walsant, debit for passage and board, that is hither come 16 April 1663 on ship The Bonte Koe (The Spotted Cow) 39 guilders, his wife 39 guilders, son of 9 years 19.10 guilders, (total) 97.10 guilders." Pierre Parmentier, his wife, and one son, arrived at New Amsterdam in April 1663, coming from Walsant, the Walloon area of Europe which is now southern Belgium and a northern portion of France, including the department of Nord and part of the department of Pas de Calais.²

• It is probable that Pierre Parmentier and his family fled Flanders due to religous persecution, movig to the Protestant area of Mannheim. In late 1662 to early 1663 the Palatinate was threatened with invasion from the neighboring Catholic princes, including the Duke of Lorraine. As a result, many Protestants who had taken refuge in Mannheim went to Amsterdam until they could obtain passage to New Netherlands. After their arrival, Piere and his family were among the first inhabitants of Bedford, Long Island, which was part of the old Town of Brooklyn. On 27 Feb. 1664 he was one of three men from "Breuckelen" nominated, although not selected, for a leadership post in the Dutch Reformed Church of Brooklyn. On 14 May 1670, Pierre Parmentier, Thomas Lambertsen, Michiel Hainelle, and John Lewis, as trustees for the community, purchased land around Bedford from five Native Americans named Elmobar, Job, Makaqueiquas, Shamose, and Peter for a price of "100 guilders sewant (wampum); one half ton of strong beer; two half tons of good beer; three guns, long barrels with each a pound of powder and lead proportionable, two bars to a gun; and four match coats." Pierre was an overseer of Brooklyn in 1671. By 19 Aug. 1675, he and his family apparently moved to Boswyck (Bushwick, Long Island), which is the town immediately to the north of Brooklyn, a part of the present day Borough of Brooklyn. He appears on the assessment rolls there on 19 Aug. 1675, with 32 morgens (64 acres) of land and valley and £148.10 of livestock. He is listed next to the farm of Jan Cornelisse Dame(n), who was the father of Pierre's only son's wife. Pierre is on the 23 Sept. 1676 assessment roll of Boswyck with a farm and 20 morgens of land and valley in Bushwick. On 15 Feb. 1676/77 he settled a dispute with Charel Fontein over a meadow. On the assessment of 8 Sept. 1683, Pierre has a grist mill valued at £50, and appears to have transferred all but two morgens of land to his son, Michael, who has a farm and 30 morgens of land and valley in Bushwick. On 31 May 1684, Pierre Palmentier "transported" two lots in Brooklyn to Jacque Lazelere. On 23 Oct. 1696 Pierre's land in Bedford is quoted in a referance in the sale of an adjacent lot. The last patent for Harlem was approved in March 1686/87, and in one of the changes from the 8 Jan. 1686/87 patent has Peter Parementier replacing Jan Louwe Bogert, who had been his neighbor in Bedford. The basis of this replacement is apparently a contract between Bogert and Parmentier under which Pierre Parmentier intended to buy Bogert's farm and mills in Harlem. This purchase, however, was never completed, and although Pierre Parmentier is oftened referred to as a key figure in Harlem's early history, based on the patent, he was never listed as a freeholder there and there does not appear to be any evidence that he ever lived there. Pierre does not appear on the roll of the Kings County Oath of Allegiance taken in Sept. 1687, although his only son Michael, is recorded.⁸

Riker in his Revised History of Harlem (1904) gives the following account: Peter Parmetier was a refugee from Mannheim, Germany who came to New Netherlands in 1663 in company with Jan Louwe Bogert aboard the Spotted Cow. He and his wife were received into the Dutch Church at Brooklyn with letters from Mannheim on 23 Sep 1663. Peter Parmetier and Jan Bogert lived as neighbors in Bedford, Brooklyn, Long Island for some years, and Peter was named as one of the trustees for the inhabitants at large, to whom the Indians sold land in 1670. He was the owner of a farm and grist mill in Bushwick, and in 1675 paid the largest tax on land and stock in the town. Peter sold his farm to his son Michiel, and in 1684 sold the last of his Brooklyn holdings. He was contracted to buy the farm of Jan Bogert in Harlem, New York, but apparently no sale ever took place. Peter Parmetier is not again named among the freeholders in Harlem or Brooklyn, and Bogert kept his farm. Riker theorizes that Pierre Parmetier apparently removed to Kingston, Ulster County, New York, and seems to have died in a state of reduced circumstances, as the church officers had to attend to his burial and the needs of his widow.⁴
• Prentiss Glazier of Sarasota, Florida (1976) who had a correspondense with Howard McConville of Schenectady, New York (whom he describes as the authority on the Palmatier/Parmentier Family) completed a manuscript on the Parmentier/Palmatier families, and states that Peter, or Pierre Parmentier and his wife Antionette Terrin were originally from Coutrai, Belgium, and that they fled to Mannheim (in the present day German state of Baden-Württemburg) as Huguenot refugees from the Spanish occupation. From Mannheim, Peter, his wife, and only known child, Michiel, came to New Amsterdam, asnd settled at Bedford, in present day Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.¹
• Howard McConnville, for many years the Historian for the City of Schenectady, spent much time researching the Parmentier/Palmatier familes of New York State. In 1998 a genealogy of his work was published posthumously (McConnville having died in the late 1970s). The published work serves well as a guide to placing the numerous families, but is brief, sticking only to vital details, and is not sourced. In addition there are numerous errors, some very obvious, such as sixty-three year old women having children. The branches of the family that moved to Canada are completely ignored. The material is to be used with caution.
• In 2007, "Pierre Parmentier of New Amsterdam and His Dutchess County Descendants," by Bruce A. Bennett, appeared in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (vol. 138, nos. 2 & 3). In the piece, Bennett, brings up Riker's 1904 account of Pierre Parmentier's death in 1701 at Kingston "in reduced circumstances." Bennett argues that although some of Pierre's grandchildren were baptized at Kingston (his son Michael had moved to Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, and Kingston was the closest RDC at the time), it is probable that Pierre never lived there himself. He mentions that Rikers handwritten notes (James Riker Papers, 1822-1889 [New York Public Library]) include the death of "one Pieter Marmande" at Esopus (Kingston) in 1701, "leaving a widow," and that other notes in Riker's papers indicate that Riker had believed that Pieter Marmande and Pierre Parmentier were one and the same. There being nothing of substance to support this theory, Bennett states that it is more likely that Pierre Parmentier died between March 1686/87, when he appeared on the Harlem patent, and September, 1687, when his name is missing from the Kings County Oath of Allegiance. The reason for the contract between Bogert and Parmentier not being completed is that Pierre Parmentier had died.
