In the family were an old maid sister of Marenas, young school teacher Ella, son Henry about 12 yrs at the time, and another son De Witt, a few years older then I."
"Between droughts, grasshoppers, etc., living in sod huts, etc., they stuck it out for a few years, then gave up and moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas. De Witt became a druggist and was still there, when I visited him in approximately 1932. The remainder of the family, I have no trace of."6 - He appeared on the census on 1 March 1885 at Roscoe, Hodgeman Co., Kansas, as M. W. Pinckney, age 52, farmer. In the household are E. B. - Nicholas Gesner and Robert Pitcairn, exchanged a series of letters in the early 1850s regarding the status of the lawsuits against the Trinity Church Corp. In the letters Nicholas Gesner speaks of the length of time (over twenty years) and the cost (one number mentioned being $9000) he has invested in the efforts, and his disatisfaction of how nothing has come of it all.13

Lane's affidavit, "which Mr. Jacob Brower put in my hands"; C-44, letter dated January 31, 1856, Nicholas Gesner, Rockland (as above mentioned) to Robert Pitcairn, mentions his poor health, Mr. B. Mandeville and Mr. Grossbeck; C-45, letter dated June 7, 1856, Nicholas Gesner of Rockland to Robert Pitcairn, mentions his poor health and his age of "one week 90 years and 6 months," and talks about the "fraud, devices and procrastinating tricks practiced by the Corporation of Trinity Church from the year 1830 to the present."
