Alice Pond1

b. circa 1855
  • Alice Pond and Alice Whitlock may be one and the same The key to the problem of the two Alices who married William Ansley Brewer lies in discovering the true date of birth of Hiram Dow Brewer. If it is discovered that he was born in 1875, then the Alices are two seperate individuals, if born in 1881, then they must be one and the same.

Content of the interview was related to Chris Chester, by Paul Brewer via e-mail dated 20 Dec 2008. "I talked with a Mrs. Lorna (Estey) Estey, whose mother was a good friend of Bessie Brewer Stewart. She confirmed what we suspected. When Ensley Brewer's wife left him, Bessie was raised by the Stewart family. She married Daniel Estey and had a large family. They lived on the Banks Road in Durham, and later at Taymouth. She gave me the names of the children and I will follow up on that. One daughter is living in Marysville. She also told me that it was her great-grandfather, Arthur O'Neill that ran off with Ensley's wife. She said that it was something that was never talked about. Apparently when they got to Maine she left Arthur and he came home "with his tail between his legs." He lived separately in another house for a while but eventually moved back home. Lorna was not sure if her name was Alice Pond or Alice Whitlock."

[S5745] Steven Eustis, "New Source for Brouwer Data," e-mail message from Steven Eustis to Chris Chester, 21 Mar 2016, Recall that the bible transcript (Attached here) was from a bible owned by "Magdalen Post". I have researched her a little more. She had no kids and was married twice - 30 Jun 1785 to Rev Simeon Van Artsdalen (who died in May 1786). Secondly to Col Anthony Post (1744-1832) on 25 Nov 1808. She is the same person you have listed as a sponsor of sister Catherine's daughter Maria's baptism in 1788. She is also the same person you have listed as a sponsor of sister Neeltje's son Simeon Van Artsdalen baptism in 1787 (namesake of Magdalen's deceased husband!) Recall that sisters Neeltje and Catherine married brothers John and Abraham (sons of Jacob Brouwer/Jannetje Hartje). Magdalen has no children and I found a copy of her will from 1844. In it she lists only a few next of kin. One is John I Brower, grandson of sister Catherine! So that is how the bible ended up in my family.. Hereinafter cited as "New Source for Brouwer Data."
