Jan Pottagie1

b. before 1618
  • Jan Pottagie was probably born before 1618.
  • Also known as Claes Janszen in some earlier interpretations of the Dutch Colonial period records. However, there appears to be no evidence at all that Jan Pottagie was ever actually called Claes Janszen.2
  • Jan Pottagie leased a farm from Abraham Planck on 21 Oct 1638 at Paulus Hoeck. On 20 April 1643, Abraham Planck leased this property to Cornelis Arissen of Paulus Hoeck. This lease was dependent upon Jan Pottagie's continued occupancy of the property. The lease agreements, from the New York Colonial MSS., vol. 2, p.53, are the only known mentions of Jan Pottagie.2
