  • The parents of Caty Proper have not been determined. There were a number of Proper families living at Highgate, Vermont in the period between 1800 and 1810 including ones headed by Tunis, Isaac, William, James, James Jr., and Peter (their names appearing on the Grand List in 1805, 1806, 1807 and on numerous deeds during the period). Of those James Proper, on the 1800 U.S. census records a female who would be of Caty's age. In 1801, the names of William Proper, Peter Brower, James Proper, and Jeremiah Brower are recorded in succession on the Grand List for Highgate, Vermont.4
  • On 18 Dec 1815, Nicholas Brewer, Caty Brewer, Huldah Brewer, Jane Brewer and Jeremiah Brewer, now residing in Huntsburgh, were ordered to "depart the town," and were served a warrent with this order by the Huntsburgh town constable.5
