He joined the British during the Revolutionary War, although apparently on both sides at different times. His property at Closter, however, was levied upon and sold by the State of New Jersey to Samuel Sayre in 1779. Abraham later petitioned the legislature for reimbursment which was denied, but another petition requesting payment of the legacy due his wife by terms of her father's will, was approved only in the event the funds were available out of the Wisner sale. They subsequently resided on land in lot 6, along Cleveland Avenue, River Vale.3
