  • Pieter went to Utrecht in the Netherlands as a young man and was there shortly after his 21st birthday. He was received as a member of the Dutch Reformed Church at Utrecht on 31 Mar 1674.2
  • Pieter bought a house on the east-side of the Oude Gracht in Utrecht near Weerdport. Pieter is described as a tobacco buyer (tobacxcooper) in records regarding the purchase. In 1692 when he sold the house his house sign was given as in den Verginiaan ("at the Virginian"). In 1694 he was called "inn-keeper" when he hired a house with a taproom. The owners were heirs of Pieter's mother, and Pieter was simply a tapper or bartender.4
  • He was named in his father's will dated on 3 September 1697 stated as living in Utrecht, Netherlands.7
  • He was a member of the at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, New York, on 26 October 1699 received with attestation from Utrecht.4
  • On 21 March 1704 Will of Jan Vinge proved before Lord Cornbury, and the two executors, Gerrit Roos and Lucas Van Theinhoven, both having died without having fully administered upon the estate, Letters of administration granted to Peter Roos, next of kin of the principal creditor.8
  • His will was dated on 1 April 1711 proved 13 May 1713. Peter Rose of New York, shopkeeper, being in good health. Leaves all estate and houses, lands and goods to loving wife, Willimentie during her life. After her decease I leave one half to my son John, by my present wife, and the other half to the children of my former wife Elizabeth, viz, Alkie, Michael, Goedart, Cornelia, and Jarrott. My eldest son to have five pounds before any division. I appoint my wife and friends John Van Gelder of New York, carpenter, and Cornelius Lister of Poor Bowery, in the town of Newtown on Long Island, executors.5
