- He built a sugar house, the first erected before the Revolutionary War, and worked during the war and for forty years afterwards. It was originally on Wall Street. His house faced Queen Street (now Pearl St.) in Franklin Square. In Apr 1772 he moved to St. George's Square into the house of his late brother, Jacobus Roosevelt, Jr. Isaac was one of the first members of the Chamber of Commerce, organized in 1768. He was among the incorporators of the first public hospital in New York City in 1770. He enlisted as a private in the 6th Regt., Dutchess Co. Militia. On 22 Apr 1775, he was elected as a member of the Provincial Congress. He was one of the most noted Whigs of his time. When the British entered New York City in 1776, Isaac Roosevelt left the city. He represented New York City at the convention at Kingston, Ulster Co., New York, 20 Apr 1777, for the purpose of adopting a State Constitution. On 18 Jun 1788, he was at Poughkeepsie to deliberate the adoption of the United States Constitution. He was the second president of the Bank of New York, and was New York State Senator, 1786-1790. He was the fourth president of the Society of the New York Hospital, 1790-1794.6
