- On 11 May 1703, Thomas Skillman, as a resident of "Hellgate's Neck," signed a petition with others. He was commissioner of highways at Newtown, Long Island in 1714. On 20 May 1721, he was joint owner of a plat, 30 x 22 for a schoolhouse at Middletown (near Dutch Kills). He witnessed a deed given by his son Isaac to Samuel Albertus in 1729. In 1731 he subscribed to the building of a Dutch Church at Newtown, and was chosen a member of the first board of trustees for the church.6
- He witnessed the baptism of Jannetje Aten , daughter of Thomas Aten and Elsje Skillman, on 18 April 1704 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Breuckelen (Brooklyn), Kings Co., Long Island, New York, (witnesses Tomas Schilman, Marytje Aten).7
- His will was dated on 13 February 1739 proved 4 Jul 1740, names wife Ann, and all living children.4

- Thomas Skillman was an English soldier in service under Col. Nicholls and was at New Amsterdam in 1664 when the Dutch surrendered the town to the English. He was at Elizabethtown, New Jersey in Feb 1665 where he took the Oath of Allegiance, then afterwards settled at Newtown, Long Island. He also was granted land at Esopus (Kingston) New York, but does not seem to have settled there.1
