Jacob Stoffelszen1

b. circa 1601, d. between 1 March 1667 and 30 March 1668
  • Jacob Stoffelszen was born circa 1601 (stated that he was aged 42 in 1643).2
  • He married first at New Amsterdam in 1639 Vrouwtje Ides.2
  • Jacob Stoffelszen married with banns published on 17 August 1657 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, Tryntje Jacobs.3
  • Jacob Stoffelszen died between 1 March 1667 and 30 March 1668; the dates when he and his wife were granted a lease and the date on which she is called a widow.4
  • It is believed he was from Zirckzee, the chief city on the island of Schowen, and the oldest city of Zeeland. He was in New Netherland by 1633, when he was commissioner of stores for the Dutch West India Company. He was overseer of the companies negroes when they were building Fort Amsterdam which was finished in 1635. He had considerable influence among the Native Americans, and appears to be the only European permitted to remain at Pavonia during the "Indian War" of 1642/43. His bouwery was the only one not destroyed. He was appointed one of the twelve men on 29 Aug 1641. He was one of the electors of the "Eight Men," and became one of them on 28 Oct 1644. On 30 Aug 1645 he was one of those who signed the peace treay with the Indians, and in 1647 Dir. Keift stated that it was Jacob Stoffelszen and Isaac Allerton (of Mayflower fame) who implored the others to sign. On 1 March 1667 he and his wife received a lease on their farm for and during the life of the "longest liver." Jacob apparently died soon afterwards.2
  • He witnessed the baptism of Hendrickje Cornelise , daughter of Cornelis Aertszen and Beletje Hendricks, on 7 July 1641 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, (sponsors Jacob Stoffelszen, Tryntje Simons).5

Elizabeth Stone1

b. 23 June 1749, d. 30 January 1829
  • Elizabeth Stone was born on 23 June 1749.2
  • She married Peter Brewer at possibly New York City, New York, on 9 August 1767.2,3
  • Elizabeth Stone died on 30 January 1829.2
  • Elizabeth Stone's parents and ancestry has not yet been discovered. Finding her origins could be key in finding the origins of her husband, Peter Brewer. She may possibly be a daughter of the Nathaniel Stone found on the tax list for the Southern Precinct, Dutchess County, New York, 1765 to 1771, when he then went to Fredericksburgh.
  • She did not marry Petrus Brouwer. This marriage being claimed by some, but without verifiable evidence. In 2009, Y-DNA testing of a direct descendant of Elizabeth Stone and her husband, Peter Brewer, demonstarated that the participant is NOT a descendant of Adam Brouwer.
