I leave to my nephew Cornelius Berien, son of my brother John Berien, deceased, all that messuage or tenement, neck of land and meadow with the adjacent islands, situate in Hellgate Neck, in Newtown, for which said neck, island and premises I advanced and paid the sum of £260. I leave to the rest of the children of my brother John Berien, deceased, viz, Samuel Jannetie, Rychens, Tryntje Berien, and Angentie Fish, so much as with the said £260, shall be one quarter. I leave to my brother Peter, 1/4. TO my sister, Agnitie Rapalye, 1/4. The rest I leave to my sister, Tryntie Remsen, wife of Jeronimus Remsen, during her life, and then to my brother Peter, and my sister Angentie Rapalye, and the children of my brother John.   • For a time he was magistrate in Queens County. His farm was on Flushing Bay and was purchased of William Stevenson in 1712. It had earlier been owned by John Ramsden. Nicholas Berrien did not have children.7

  • Peter Berrien was a surveyor and became a large landholder. He served for several years as supervisor, and enjoyed a large measure of public confidence. He presented the ground on which the first Dutch church in Newtown was erected.2
  • He witnessed the baptism of Cornelis Berrien , son of John Berrien and Ruth Edsall, on 1 May 1698 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Breuckelen (Brooklyn), Kings Co., Long Island, New York, (witnesses Pieter Berrien, Jannetje Etcel).5
  • His will was dated on 31 October 1727 proved 18 Apr 1737. Peter Berrien of Newtown in Queens COunty, being in good health. I leave to my wife Elizabeth, during her widowhood, the use of 1/2 the plantation on which I now dwell. If she marries then she shall have £20 yearly. I leave to my eldest son Cornelius, £15. All the rest of my esttae to my children, Cornelius, Samuel, John, Petrus, Janetie, Nicholas, Jacob and Benjamin. I appoint my brother Nicholas Berrien, and my brother-in-law, Samuel Fish, executors.   • He married first at Reformed Church, Sloterdijk, Netherlands, on 14 September 1636 Aeltje Lambrechts (Banns dated 30 Aug 1636 at Amsterdam).4
  • Gerrit Bickers married second at Sloten, Netherlands, on 19 June 1650 Aeltje Lubbertse.4
  • Gerrit Bickers died before 6 June 1659; (when his widow remarried).5

  • Gerrit Bicker is found at numerous locations in the New World. He was at the Dutch Settlement in Brazil in 1638, and is recorded at Mauritsstad, Brazil on 25 Jul 1641, when he loaned 700 guilders to Kiliaen Sneider. On 26 March 1642 he took the burgher oath at New Amsterdam, and from 1643 to 1649 he was a brandy distiller there. In 1650 he was married near Amsterdam, and in 1652 had a child baptized at New Amsterdam. He was in command of the garrison at Fort Casimir, on the South (Delaware) River in May 1654 when it was surrendered to the Swedes. On 27 March 1658, Richard Heaberd was granted 250 acres at Westmoreland County, Virginia for the transportation of Gerrit Bicker, his wife and children.7
