• He was an early leader in the settlement of Staten Island, New York. He came first to New Netherland on 6 Aug 1661, aboard the St. John the Baptist. On 22 Aug 1661, Pierre Billiou obtained permission for himself and others to settle on Staten Island. He remained there for forty years. In 1664 he represented the settlers at a conference of outlying villages to establish protection from Indian raids. In 1669 he was in command of a file of men to protect and safeguard the island. In 1673 he was elected Schout and Schepen.¹
• , The Billiou-Stillwell house, located at 1476 Richmond Road in Dongan Hills (Staten Island), was built about 1670 by Pierre Billiou. It was enlarged by Thomas Stillwell about 1680, and may have been enlarged further by Nicholas Britten. It was restored in 1943-1951 by the Staten Island Historical Society.⁵
