• Her will was dated on 5 December 1684 Called Geertje Cornelis Van Fulpen, "lying sick in bed, but being in full possession of her mind, memory and speech, as outwardly appeared..." Names her four children, Neeltje, Elizabeth, Cornelis and Jan. States that she prefers to stay with her aforesaid two daughters as long as she pleases and they also approve thereof. Mentions the garden lot obtained from Marten Hendryks Beeckman, the house occupied by her and her daughters, with the lot and further buildings and the garden which lies in front of the door. Also mentions land lying at Kinderhook obtained from Thomas Paul (Powell). Signs by her mark at the house standing opposite the island occupied by Mr. Marten Gertzen. Witnesses: Marten Gertzen (Van Bergen), Pieter (Everhardusz) Bogardus.
  A note states that on 29th of December of the same year, early in the morning, the aforesaid Geertie Cornelis van Fulpen died.^4,8

• He was from the village of Winkle in North Holland about fifteen miles west of Hoorn, and was among the very first settlers at New Amsterdam, arriving in 1624. He occupied one of the six bouweries started by the Dutch West India Company on Manhattan Island. He returned to Holland in 1633. He left Holland on 10 Jul 1634, sailed first to Virginia, and then to New Netherlands. Before 1635, Jacob and some associates had been refused permission to settle on the Fresh River (later the Connecticut River). It appears that he went back to Holland in 1641, married, and returned again to New Netherlands by 1648 when he settled at Rensselaerwyck. He was offered two small farms there on 12 May 1650 which he refused. On 30 Sep 1650 he was offered half of "Casteels Island called Welys Bruch" which he also refused, and on the following day was given permission to go to New Amsterdam. On 23 Oct 1654 he was given a grant of 25 morgens of land at Pavonia, and on 17 Apr 1657 was given the rights of a small burgher. He died shortly thereafter.¹

No recorded will has been left, although in 1774, his brother Gerrit mentioned £20 which Gerrit, Jr. "had from his uncle John Vanwycklen." He probably died unmarried. Richard W. Cook, "The Van Wicklen Family," Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey 35 (1960):50, mistakenly thought he was the John with a family in the so-called 1738 Flatbush census, but that was his first cousin, the son of Evert.²
