  • He came to New Amsterdam as a child, was a prosperous farmer and land speculator and became the subject of one of Washington Irving's satires, The Golden Dreams of Wolfert Webber.5

  • Wolfert is said to have kept a tavern on the road to Harlem in 1650. He was an assessor in New York City in 1695-96 and 1698. He and his wife Geertruyd Hassing joined the Reformed Dutch Church of New York City on 15 July 1668.10
  • His will was dated on 15 April 1715 proved 5 Feb 1717, he calls himself Wolfert Webber of the Out Ward, New York City, yeoman, in good health but ancient.5,10
