  • He moved with his father from Chester Co., Pennsylvania to Washington Co., Maryland prior to Sep 1777.2
  • He was a Revolutionary War soldier. He enlisted shortly after the capture of Burgoyne (Sep 1777) and served four months guarding prisoners at Fort Frederick, Maryland. In 1778 he moved to Washington Co., Pennsylvania, volunteered and served in several scouting parties against the Indians. In Oct 1780 he marched in Capt. Ebenezer Williamson's Co., Col. Williamson's Pennsylvania Regt. to the mouth of the Big Beaver on the Ohio River, then to the Moravian Towns where they took Indian prisoners and carried them to Pittsburgh. Length of service about two months. He served in the spring of 1781, two months under Lieut. Lindley to guard the frontiers on the Ohio River. He went on an expedition against the Sandusky Towns, under Captain Timothy Downing and Colonels William Crawford and David Williamson, and was in two battles with the Indians on the Sandusky River. Length of service about one month. He was living in Ohio County, Virginia in 1783, and while there went to St. Louis and was enaged as a spy under Maj. Doughty. Length of service not stated.2
