  • Peter Woodring served during the Revolutionary War. A pension was executed on his behalf on 29 Oct 1832, at which time he was aged about seventy-five and was a resident of Fairfield County, Ohio. In his application, Peter Woodring or Wotring, states that he was born in Northampton County, Pennsylvania (date of birth and names of parents are not given). While residing in Northampton Co., about eight miles from Bethlehem, he volunteered and served two months in Capt. Sentee's Company, Colonel Weitzel's Pennsylvania Regt., guarding the frontier on the Delaware River. Directly after his discharge, he served another tour of two months under the same officers as a guard on the Delaware River at the house of Samuel Pugh. He returned home and in a short time enlisted and served two months as a guard on the Delaware River in Captain Peter Rhoades' company, Col. Nicholas Kern's Pennsylvania Regt. About two months after his return home, he enlisted again and served four months in Captain Wental Howard's (perhaps meant for Vandle Hower's) company, COl. John Sigfried's Pennsylvania Regt., marched to the Schuykill River, just above Philadelphia, to guard a floating bridge across the river at that point, thense to Germantown where Gen. George Washington was then with the army and at which place he was discharged. He never received a written discharge.
    After his service, Peter Woodring or Wotring continued to reside near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, fifteen or twenty years after the Revolutionary War he then moved to the vicinity of Hagerstown, Maryland, where he remained nine or ten years, thense to Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, resided a number of years then moved to Fairfield County, Ohio.6
  • He went to Maryland in about 1786. At Hagerstown, Md. in 1794 and 1796; at Hempsfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania in 1800; and at Fairfield Co., Ohio in 1806.3
  • He appeared on the census in 1800 at Hempfield, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania, as Peter Wotring, with a household of 2 males under 10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 26-44, 2 females under 10, 1 female 16-25, 1 female 26-44.2
