  • Pieter Jacobse Borsboom was probably born between 1620 and 1630 at Katwijk aan den Rijn (Catwijk op Rijn), South Holland, the Netherlands.
  • He married Grietje.
  • Pieter Jacobse Borsboom died before 30 May 1689; (date of inventory).

  • He was a brickmaker and settled early at Beverwijck. In 1662 he was one of the fifteen first proprietors at Schenectady. His home lot in the village was the north quarter of the block bounded by Front, Washington, Union and Church streets. He also had two farms alotted to him on the bouwland.5
  • On 25 October 1653 "a lot behind Fort Orange for a garden, bounded on the east side by Pieter Jacobsen, on the north side by Lambert van Valckenborch..." is described in a deed from Willem Hofmeyer to Jochem Wesselen, the baker. The same property is again described in a deed from Jochem Wesselsen, the baker, to Adriaen Jansen van Ilpendam, dated 14 March 1658.6
  • On 11 November 1654 Johannes Dyckman sold to Adriaen Janse (Appel) Van Leyden, his house in Fort Orange...adjoining to the west Lambert Van Valckenborgh, and on the south Pieter Jacobse (Borsboom?)...7
  • On 4 June 1657 Sunday evening. Martin de Metselaer, in the guard (?) of the Burgesses, cut and wounded Pieter Borsboom in the head with his dagger (?) for which act early on Thursday, the 7th of June, I had him hauled out of bed and set in the stocks. (Memorandum per N.B.).8
  • On 13 August 1657 at Beverwijck, Pieter Jacobsen and Johannes Provoost witnessed the marriage contract of Roeloff Swartwout and Eva Albertsen (Bratt).3
  • On 7 November 1657 at Beverwijck, Madam De Hulter proposes to sell at public sale her cart with a horse named Old Cato, which shall be delivered in the morning being the 8th November, but the payment shall be made on the first day of July, A.D. 1658, half beavers and the other half in merchantable seewant. After many offers, Pieter Jacobse Borsboom remained the last bidder for two hundred and eighty guilders, according to the aforesaid conditions, and Cornelis Cornelisse Sterrevelt and Jan Snderiessen De Graef stood sureties for the aforesaid sum, on pledge of their persons and estates, personal and real.   • On 28 July 1662 at Beverwijck, New Netherland, Abraham Staets purchased at public sale from Pieter Jacobsen Bosboom, a brick kiln (steen backery) excepting the bricks (steenen) which are now therein, with the lot belonging therto of such magnitude as the patent mentions, for the sum of three hundred and fifty guilders in good current seewant to be paid in two installments; the first within one month from date and the other on the first of May, A.D. 1662; meanwhile the buyer remains holden to provide for the auction fees and pay to the vendue master a stuiver for every guilder, on pledge of his person and estate...14

  • His will was dated on 18 April 1684 (not proved). Peter Jacobs Bosboom doth declare, who being an Inhabitant here and at present lying sick in Bedd, but having and using his Sences. And coming to the disposition of goods which he is to leave behind him, he makes his universall heirs to be his 5 children, Anna, Marytie, Catharina, Fytie and Cornelis, of all goods, moveables and immovables, gold and silver, and nothing in the world excepted. He makes Adam Vrooman and Joris Aertse Van der Boest, tutors of his children, according to the tenor of a will dated April 18, 1684. Witnesses: Johannes Postman, Reynier Shoett, Ludovicus Coles.4
