  • Willem Bredenbent was born before 1620 at Cologne, Germany, (probably much earlier as his wife was likely to have been born around 1590).
  • He married Aeltje Braconie at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, on 4 September 1644.2
  • Willem Bredenbent died between 22 June 1670 and 20 August 1675 at Gowanus, Kings Co., Long Island, New York; (date of will, and date when he no longer appears on the town assessment rolls).3
  • Willem Bredenbent apparently lived in New Amsterdam until about 1657/58 when he removed to his land in or about Gowanus where he spent the remainder of his life. He and his wife joined the Brooklyn Church and are recorded as members on the list 12 Sep 1660. He was Deputy Sheriff, or Schout Fiscal at Brooklyn from 1638 until 1658. He probably outlived his wife and apparently never had children of his own.4
  • On 5 September 1645, Patent granted to Jan Snediger, a lot for a house and garden bounded on the west by the lot of Willem Bredenbent with a northern point bounding on the lot of Hendrick Jansz; it extends to the canal on the south end of the lot 8 rods, 8 feet, 6 inches; on the east side along the lot of Willem Bredenbent 5 rods, 8 feet and 4 inches; on the north side next to the lot of Aert Willemsz and Hendrick Jansz Smit 7 rods, 8 feet, 3 inches; on the west side 6 rods, 6 feet, 4 inches; amounting in all to 55 rods, one foot, 3 inches, with the express conditions etc...5
  • He witnessed the baptism of Catherine Van der Beek , daughter of Paulus Van der Beek and Maria Badie, on 10 September 1645 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, (sponsors: De Hr. Willem Kieft, gouvernor, Mr. Hans Kierstede, Willem Brendenbent, and Aeltje Braconje, and Maritie Lievens).6

  • Immigrant ancestor to America in 1635 Came to New England, lived first at New Amsterdam and was at Gravesend, Long Island in 1643.1
  • He witnessed the baptism of Hendrick Watkyn , son of William Watkins and Susannah Spicer, on 17 August 1644 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam, (sponsors Henry Brassert, Evert Duycking, Jonas Smit, en s.h.v., Marritje Douwken).8
  • On 8 eb 1659, the town of Gravesend agreed that Henry Brasier should build a grist mill. In 1653 he had bought a parcel of land from Loockermans on the East River next to Van Borsum's, the Ferry Man. In 1651 he was a tobacco planter and received a patent for 32 acres of land on Long Island somewhere north of the ferry and nearly opposite of the land he had acquired of Lookermans. In 1654 he violated the ordinances to remain at New Amsterdam, enacted on the belief that the English were preparing to attack, and went to New England. He returned in 1655 and it was decided by the Council at New Amsterdam that despite the fact that he left during times of trouble, Henry should be allowed to return to settle his affairs but was not to become domiciliated. However, he did remain in New Netherland. In 1657 he was a small burgher. He was invovled with the legal proceedingd involving the settlement of the estate of Jan Hutsitson who died at Henry's home in the fall of 1658. Jan's will of 4 Oct 1658 names Henry's children: Susanna Bresar (Jan's godchild), Mary Bresar, Rebecca Bresar and Martje Bresar.1
