A Resource for the Descendants of Adam Brouwer, Jan Brouwer and Willem Brouwer

The information found here is taken from the Brewer DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA and pertains to results found there that are similiar enough to conclude that the participating descendant is somehow a descendant of Jan Brouwer of Flatlands.

Below you will find a Grid Chart which displays the Y-DNA test results of those who are descendants of, or are strongley believed to be descendants of Jan Brouwer. Boxes that are colored yellow indicate that there are differences in the allele value at that particular location. At the top is a combined modal value for Jan Brouwer based upon all of the results of all those found in the chart. It is important to note that the modal values shown here are calculated based simply upon the rate at which the various allele values appear in those who have been tested. Since, at this point, a relativley small number of subjects have participated, this method of calculating the modal values for the MRCA may not be completely reliable. For example, this simple statistical calculation does not take into consideration tendancies in the direction of mutations at the various allele locations. Below the Grid Chart are links to pedigree charts which display the ancestry of each participant from their earliest known ancester (EKA). These charts display the relationship between the participants based upon traditional genealogical research. In other words, the "paper-trail."The individuals found in the descendant charts include links to more information obtained from traditional research. Details on living descendants, including the actual participants, as well as those born after 1910, have not been included. It should be emphasized that Y-DNA testing can only be useful when it is combined with traditional research, and therefore, anyone who does take a Y-DNA test should also submitt a pedigree to the project that is as detailed and accurate as possible.

Researchers will find much more information on Y-DNA analysis and suggestions on Richard Brewer's website.

It is also strongly suggested that male Brower and Brewer descendants who have not yet participated in the Brewer DNA Project (at Family Tree DNA) do so. As more descendants participate, and as more results are accumulated, the picture of the various Brouwer-Brower-Brewer families will only become more clear. By participating you are contributing to the growing base of knowledge available for all Brouwer-Brower-Brewer family researchers. In turn you will very clearly be able to see if you are, or are not, a descendant of either Jan Brouwer or Adam Brouwer, or possibly some other Brower/Brewer family.

• Stephen Brewer Chart Earliest ancestor is Stephen Brewer. Kit #80836
• John J. Brewer Chart Earliest ancestor is John J. Brewer of Wayne Co., NY. Kit #118063.
• Richard Brewer (NY-OH) Chart Earliest known ancestor is Richard Brewer (NY-OH). Kit #157835.
• John Brewer Chart Participants have a confirmed line of descent from John Brewer (d.1809 in Ohio). Kit #s 35070, 144256, 60686.
• John Rose Chart Participants have a confirmed line of descent from John Rose (d.1830 in Ohio). Kit #s 7689, 9135, 67034, 64319, 8068, 99500, 353796.
• Embody Chart This one Embody descendant matches others descended from John Rose and John Brewer. Kit #11677. PLEASE NOTE: This chart shows the ancestry of the tested descendant by way of his surname. IT IS NOT representative of his genetic ancestry. Y-DNA testing of other descendants of Henry Embody (b. 1746) does not match that of our kit #11677. Therefore, our descendant is NOT a genetic descendant of Henry Embody. Somewhere in our descendant's ancestry, between himself and Daniel Embody, a non paternal event (NPE) occurred. What this event was, or where in the lineage it occured, is not yet known.
• William Brewer (LA-TX) Chart Earliest known ancestor, William Brewer, b. 1826 in Louisiana, was apparently in eastern Texas prior to Texas' independence from Mexico. It should be noted that although both participants claim a descent that is only four generations removed from a common ancestor, the DNA results differ on 3 of 37 markers, which translates into only a 13.04% chance that the two participants would actually have a common ancestor within four generations. • Elias E. Brower Elias E. Brower, born about 1786, lived at Marlborough, Monmouth Co., New Jersey. One tested descendant demonstrated a match with others descended from Jan Brouwer of Flatlands, L. I. Kit #219634.
• Isaac Brewer, Monmouth Co., NJ Isaac Brewer (or Brower) lived in Monmouth County, New Jersey. His wife was Styntje (Christina) Van Brunt. Isaac has tentatively been placed as a son of Elias Brewer and Elizabeth Palmer. A descendant's Y-DNA test results (#262994) are most closely matched 65/67 with #187629, a descendant of Johannes Brouwer & Aegje Sprong.
