Francis Browning

Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting. Know ye: that by Virtue of a certificate in right of Settlement given by the Commissioners for adjusting the Titles to unpatented Lands in the District of Washington and Montgomery in consideration of the ancient composition of fifteen shillings sterling paid by Francis Browning unto the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Francis Browning assignee of John Longhlin a certain Tract or parcel of land. Containing one hundred and thirty acres by Survey bearing date the fifteenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty two. Lying and being in the County of Washington on the Meadow Branch of Cedar Creek the Waters of Clinch River and bounded as followeth ? Beginning at white oak and ? by the branch near the north side of Carmel ridge and running thence north eighty eight poles to a double white oak on the South side of Brushy Hill North fifty six degrees south thirty nine poles to a white oak and Dogwood near the mouth of Sinking  Branch north twenty two degrees East fifty five poles to a small branch to white oak on the top of a Rocky ? south fifty seven degrees east sixty poles to two white oaks on the side of a Mockey Mill east one hundred and fifty one poles crossing a branch to two large white oaks and Dogwood sapling south twenty three degrees west fifty three poles to three beaches on a steep bank of the branch at the foot of the Chermill ridge and along said Branch and ridge south seventy two degrees west two hundred and fifty one poles crossing the branch to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances to the said Francis Browning and his heirs forever.

In witness whereof the said Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the twentieth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and of the Commonwealth the ninth.
