The Stuart Family treasures were given to the Brownson Family by The Young Pretender. These gifts were given as a token of gratitude to the family that had been loyal to his ancestors. To add some intrigue to
our history story, it is known that Mary & The Earl of Bothwell had an
adulterous relationship with letters being found to prove this. There is a
strong belief that a "rumoured" child of this union was raised by a
Brownson. It is believed there were so many Mary Brownsons in the family descendancy lines due to the connection with Mary Stuart.

When the last Mary Brownson died in Parwich in 1906 a string of Stuart Nobility turned up at the sale with a shower of money to purchase the family possessions. A James Brownson was at this sale and managed to outbid The Duke of Portland on one silver bound wine jug, the Duke himself won the bid for the other one of the pair. This wine jug is still in the family today. It must be remembered that a great deal went not only unwritten, but unsaid in families of bygone eras, especially when there was a link to a "Traitor Queen". Click on image to enlarge

Old Hall Farm Parwich |
From a book "The Bronson Linage",
produced by George Brownson & Harriet Sibley, after Mary's execution, a
branch of the family settled in Parwich, Derbyshire and live in Old Hall
Farm where the Brownson descendants remained for almost 200 years. The
last Brownson to reside there was George who moved to Ashton-under-Lyne
after his son Thomas married Kitty Hague on 22 June 1815. |
