First Generation
1. Giles Brutton was born about 1480.
A Giles Britton held land and paid taxes 1525 Morchard Bishop. "Giles Breton of Briton" paid L$1. Lay Subsidy Roll for Morchard Episcopi (Morchard Bishop). Also went by Breton, Briton. Searched for any other document, etc. concerning Morchard Bishop - nothing. Since Lay Subsidies were "required" of the upper class - you would expect Giles to show up in the various other similar documents. So it would appear that he died shortly after 1525 and his family moved from Morchard Bishop or Giles, himself, moved out of the area. - rhg Strange that we could not find any other documents - thus far. - rhg
Giles Bruton, Breton, Briton b. ca 1480 is the progenitor as shown in Chart II of Philip Brutton's chart. We tend to agree with the line in its majority. - rhg
