Bryan to Bryant

The spelling was changed from Bryan to Bryant in 1868 when Hiram Bryan and family moved from Winnebago county, Illinois to Bourbon county, Kansas.
William Bryan, the oldest son was the person responsible for the change according to his granddaughter, Helen Bryant Fillion. She told me (1983) that she could remember, when as a child her grandfather telling her, that when he was in the Civil War that people labeled him as one of the poor Irish who were migrating to America in large numbers about that time because of the famine in Ireland. So when they changed localities, they also changed the name to Bryant.
