Copyright Fundamentals for Genealogy  -

written  by Michael Patrick Goad

A very good article about copyrights.  It explains that names and dates are not covered under copyright laws.  Neither is anything published in a book such that is not the original work of the author.  HOWEVER, it is only a common courtesy to give credit to the source/person when using another person's research.  AND don't forget to do your own research.  Just because names and dates were found in a book or on a web page does not mean that the original source is correct.

Using Google for Genealogy Searches

This article has tips for using Google and other search engines to find information about your ancestors.  Also see the Ancestry Quick Tip - Search for Ancestors on Google when searching for common names.

Although expensive, I use Ancestry.com frequently, especially for census information.
