Sohn and Rentschler Foundry at 414 Vine Street, 1883

The original plant of the Hamilton Foundry and Machine Company was built in 1891 in East Hamilton on Lincoln Avenue.  The foundry was established to handle the overflow from the Sohn and Rentschler Foundry which had been established in 1875 on Vine Street.  The business was founded by George Adam Rentschler and Henry Sohn.  Both foundries manufactured gray iron castings.  In 1913 the flood destroyed the Sohn and Rentschler foundry and its entire business was taken over by the Hamilton Foundry and Machine Company.

On April 27, 1959, the name of the company was changed to Hamilton Foundry, Inc.  Later it became known as Hamilton Allied Corporation and operated under that name in Hamilton through the mid 1980s.
