The Martin Mason Brewing Company, One of the Oldest Concerns of Its Kind in Ohio

No Hamilton concern has a more interesting history than the Martin Mason Brewing Company, which today is famous throughout the State of Ohio for the purity and general excellence of its product, and the wisdom and liberality of its policy.  Men who are not yet old can remember the beginnings of this enterprise which, which under William Schlosser, has in recent years taken its place as leader in Ohio brewing enterprises and is daily acquiring a wider reputation and an even more secure position in the trade. . .

West Hamilton Brewery, 1875, owned by Henry Eger

The South C Street property of the Martin Mason Brewing Company has been used for brewery purposes since the year 1852.  It must not be inferred, however, that the present buildings were constructed that far back.  They were, in fact, built in recent times.  The Rossville Brewery was built in the year mentioned above by Daniel Beck and John Koeninger.  The following year the plant was utterly destroyed by fire and was burned to the ground and Jacob Stahl purchased the interest of Mr. Koeninger.

Mr. Stahl retired from the business in the latter part of the year 1855.  From this time Jacob Stahl was the sole owner of the brewery until the year 1869, when Henry Eger, of White Oak, Hamilton County, purchased the business.  For several years the plant was operated in a rather unsuccesful manner, and H.P. Deuscher becoming interested in the business purchased the brewery.  Subsequently Martin Mason bought an interest in the industry and added various improvements and new equipment to the plant, providing The Eagle Brewing Company, as the plant was then known, with all the facilities for manufacturing a great quantity and a fine quality of beer.

It was in the year 1896 that the business was incorporated under the name Martin Mason Brewing Company, which name is still retained by those who are now interested in the management of the concern. . .
