The Fred J. Meyers Company was established in 1858 in
Covington, Kentucky. Around 1894 the company suffered a disastrous
fire which almost completely destroyed its four buildings. Following
the fire the company decided to change the location of the plant to Hamilton
because of its suitable climate for industry.

The Hamilton facility occupied four and one half acres of the city's East side. Among its products were iron fences, bank and office fixtures, sifters, punches, elevator cars, and even jail cells.
