The Hamilton post office dates back to 1804 when President
Thomas Jefferson appointed John Reily postmaster. In the beginning,
the post office was located on Water Street (now called Monument Avenue).
Mail was brought to Hamilton once a week by horseback from Cincinnati and
later came by stagecoach from Dayton. The post office has had many
different locations before moving to a permanent site in 1932. Before
that, it was located at the corner of Second and High (where the Rentschler
Building now is). |
