To The Officers And Men Of The Third Battalion:

At this time while we pause between two great phases of our war for the survival of free men, I bow in humble tribute befere the many glorious victories you have achieved. Only by your determination and sacrifice have these victories been possible.

My deepest source of pride is the realization of the loyalty you have shown for your commanders, your organization, and the purposes of your country. The many occasions on which you endured hardships which seemed unbearable, and your readiness to make the supreme sacrifice, have marked you as great men, and brought you to the day when the enemy lies prostrate at your feet.

Those comrades of yours and mine who have fallen along the pathway you have followed to this day of ultimate victory. look down in praise on you who have so ably carried on in their cause, and make ready for that one greater day when all our enemies have been beaten and we shall all join together in that land of great warriors.

E. O. Peckham,
Lt. Col., Inf. Commanding.
