Afton Fisher Bybee

Afton Fisher Bybee entered the arms of our loving Heavenly Father on June 15, 2004 , at Idaho Falls , following a three year battle with ovarian cancer.

Afton was born on January 24, 1916 , at Annis , Idaho , to Hyrum James and Artemissia (Macy) Clark Fisher. She was the seventh of ten children. She grew up and attended school in Annis, Gilmore, St. Anthony, Island Park and Rigby.

Afton married her high school sweetheart John Grant Bybee on March 15, 1935, in Annis. They built their home on the family farm and have lived there their entire lives. Their marriage was blessed with two children. On November 29, 1962, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She worked with her husband on the family farm before going to work for Taylor Produce for 30 years, Excelsis Beauty College as receptionist and the Fabric Store in Rigby for 10 years.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a teacher in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society, as president of the YMIA, and in the Spanish Extraction Program.

Afton won several blue ribbons for her crocheting at the local fairs and enjoyed many crafts. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed being around people and had a positive attitude during her trials.

Survivors include her husband, Grant Bybee of Annis; her son, Aldon Lynn (Marilyn) Bybee of Sedalia, CO; her daughter, Ronna Lee (Garold) Sommers of Idaho Falls; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Donnetta Merrill of Annis; and brother, Oren Fisher of Weiser, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Special thank you to Dr. Mulvey and his staff, and to those from Hospice who were so devoted.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby with Bishop Kevin Searle officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Menan LDS Stake Center, and on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
