Zion
The name of Temple Mount, one of the hills in Jerusalem. The Hebrew word is used as a synonym for Jerusalem in the names of many churches and chapels, such as

The form Sion is also used

Zion Congregational Church, Ripponden
Oldham Road. Formed in 1868 by a group who had left Rishworth Particular Baptist Chapel, The foundation stone was laid on 21st August 1869. The Church and the Sunday school were built in 1869. The Church was (possibly) designed by Robert Kelsall Lee.

The Church opened on 7th September 1870 The total cost, including the building and the boundary walls, was about £3,800.

It is said that it was originally intended to be a Baptist Church, but – influenced by Henry Lee, a major benefactor – it became a Congregational Church

A day school opened just west of the Church in 1871.

The manse opened just west of the Church in 1882.

An infants' school opened in 1886.

In 1891, Ripponden Technical Institute was started here.

On 29th April 1902, the Church and organ were damaged by fire. Damage was estimated at £750.

Details of the organ in the Church can be found in the National Pipe Organ Register.

In the 1940s/1950s, a Baby Clinic and School Clinic were held there.

Like Union Croft Chapel, Ambler Thorn and Rishworth Independent Chapel, the chapel chose to remain independent after the Congregationalists and the Presbyterians merged to form the United Reformed Church in 1972.

It was later known as Ripponden Congregational Church.

The Church closed around 1992.

It was converted to apartments [2002-2003].

There is a Roll of Honour to those who died in World War I.

The Church closed around 1992 and was converted to apartments. The graveyard was walled off by the developer. Brambles cover the whole site and make it inaccessible.

Some of the monumental inscriptions in the graveyard are shown in the CD entitled Monumental Inscriptions in the Ripponden Area

Zion Congregational Manse, Ripponden
Oldham Road.

The manse for Zion Congregational Church was built just west of the Church and opened in 1882

Zion Methodist Free Chapel, Hove Edge
Aka Zion Chapel, Zion United Methodist Chapel.

Built on land at the junction of Chapel Street and Spout House Lane, Hove Edge, Brighouse.

Opened on 8th November 1882. The chapel succeeded Finkil Chapel, Hove Edge of 1863.

It closed in 1975 and was demolished around 1976.

Houses now occupy the site.

Zion Particular Baptist Church, Hebden Bridge
Osborne Street. Built in 1881 in the Stubbings area of Hebden Bridge by the Zion Strict Baptists. The Chapel opened on Good Friday 1882 and superseded the Dove Chapel. It is built over a row of houses

Zion Primitive Methodist Church, Elland
Catherine Street.

The foundation stone was laid on 2nd April 1864 by Rev John Simpson. The Church opened in 186?.

Recorded in 1905 and 1915.

Closed in 19??.

Demolished in 19??. Houses now stand on the site

Zion Strict Baptist Church, Siddal
Oxford Lane.

Founded by David Smith. It was the first place of worship in Siddal.

Opened in 1859.

Closed in 1971
