The Church opened on 7th September 1870
The total cost, including the building and the boundary walls, was
about £3,800.
It is said that it was originally intended to be a Baptist
Church, but – influenced by Henry Lee, a major benefactor – it
became a Congregational Church
A day school opened just west of the Church in 1871.
The manse opened just west of the Church in 1882.
An infants' school opened in 1886.
In 1891, Ripponden Technical Institute was started here.
On
29th April 1902,
the Church and organ were damaged by fire.
Damage was estimated at £750.
Details of the organ in the Church can be found in the National Pipe Organ Register.
In the 1940s/1950s, a Baby Clinic and School Clinic were held there.
Like
Union Croft Chapel, Ambler Thorn and
Rishworth Independent Chapel,
the chapel chose to remain independent after the
Congregationalists and the
Presbyterians merged to form the
United Reformed Church in 1972.
It was later known as Ripponden Congregational Church.
The Church closed around 1992.
It was converted to apartments [2002-2003].
There is a Roll of Honour to those who died in World War I.

The manse for Zion Congregational Church was built just
west of the Church and opened in 1882
Built on land at the junction of Chapel Street and Spout House Lane, Hove Edge, Brighouse.
Opened on 8th November 1882.
The chapel succeeded Finkil Chapel, Hove Edge of 1863.
It closed in 1975 and was demolished around 1976.
Houses now occupy the site.
