Local Common Lodging Houses

With the demand for workers in the local mills, there was a need for accommodation. Many individual households took in one or more lodgers or boarders. The Common Lodging Houses were set up to accommodate the others.

This Foldout lists some registered keepers of Common Lodging Houses in Halifax:

Grace Heaton at 47 and 49 Winding Road [in November 1902]
Frank Dobson at 47 and 49 Winding Road [in June 1903]

On 6th July 1903, Halifax Watch Committee published Schedules stating the maximum number of Lodgers authorised to be received at any one time into the Common Lodging Houses within the Borough, and into each of the several rooms specified in the Schedules referred to, be approved, and that Notices thereof be given to the Keepers of Common Lodging Houses
