Born in Elland.
He was
a member of the Sunday School of Temperance Methodist Church, Elland /
a brick worker [1911].
During World War I,
he enlisted [August 1916], and
served as a Private
with the 1st/4th Battalion
King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
He was injured by poison gas and died in No.16 General Hospital, Le
Treport, France [29th July 1917].
His mother had been sent for, and arrived just before he died.
He was buried at the Mont Huon Military Cemetery, France,
and his mother was present at the interment.
He is remembered on Elland War Memorial,
and on the Memorial at St Paul's & Temperance Street Churches, Elland
