Born in Langfield.

He was a cotton spinner [1864] / a master cotton spinner employing 211 hands [1871] / a cotton broker & patent agent [1881].

He owned much property in and around Langfield.

He was described as a gentleman of Stoodley in Langfield.

Throughout the 1860s-1880s, he was very active, showing ponies, dogs & poultry at shows throughout the North of England.

In [Q1] 1866, he married Ann Walker Fairbourn [1838-1893] in Todmorden.

He was one of the founders of Kirkstall Abbey. He was present at the coronation of Richard I

[12??-1311] Earl of Lincoln.

Held extensive lands in Lancashire and in Yorkshire.

At his death an Inquisition Post Mortem was held. This became known as The Great de Lacy Inquisition.

It was unusual in that Henry held no lands in fee in chief of the King, but he held all his lands and tenements in the country of Lancaster immediately of the King by the service of 14 Knights' Fees and ½ part of Knights Fee and by the rent of 105s 8d payable yearly, etc. It is dated 16 February 4 Edward II.

An example of the great detail of this Inquisition is as follows:

Around 1530, he gave money to build the south porch to Halifax Parish Church. He also founded Lacey's Chapel, Southowram.

On March 22nd 1536, his son – Thomas/John – led a group of Tempest's supporters who attacked Robert Holdesworth, the Vicar of Halifax

He succeeded his father in holding the Honour of Pontefract.

In 1102, for disloyalty in supporting Robert Curthose, his lands were forfeit and he was banished from England by Henry I (Beauclerc). He was pardoned and returned to England where he assisted in establishing the Priory to St Oswald at Nostell, and others at Pontefract and at Monk Bretton.

Thomas Lacy has no right in the premises and shall execute a deed of release to Stapilton and shall cause his brother Edward Lacy, priest, to do the like

He fought with William the Conqueror and received land in Herefordshire for his services. He founded the Lacy family of Herefordshire.

He died at Hereford and was buried at Gloucester Cathedral.

His great-granddaughter, Elizabeth de Burgh, married Robert the Bruce
