Lambert House, Rochdale Road, West Vale was built for him [1887].

He lived at Lambert House with his housekeeper Marie Tanner [1891].

He died 13th June 1900.

He was buried at St Thomas's Church, Greetland

During World War I, he served as an Air Mechanic 3rd Class with the 14th Wing Royal Air Force.

He died of disease in Italy [26th October 1918] (aged 22).

He was buried at the Montecchio Precalcino Communal Cemetery Extension, Italy [8 D 4].

He is remembered on Elland War Memorial, and on the Memorial at Saint Mary the Virgin, Elland

He was a woollen manufacturer (employer) [1911] / (possibly) partner in John Maude & Sons

Son of John Maude.

In 1861, he and his brother William (age 13) and George (age 11) were pupils at a school in Kippax run by Mary Ann & William Hirst.

He was a worsted spinner of West Vale.

On Saturday, 31st July 1875, he was found dead on the roof of the Huddersfield-Bradford train after it had passed under a bridge at Bradley. His hat was found at Bradley.

The inquest recorded that – although he was sober – he had climbed on the train when he found the carriage-doors locked, and had been struck on the forehead by projecting stones on a low bridge.

He was buried at Elland Parish Church

Question: Does anyone know which beerhouse this may have been? Possibly the Bridge Hotel, Greetland or the Clothiers' Arms, Greetland?

 

The Leeds Times of 15th August 1853 reported


HE'LL NOT DO SO AGAIN

On Saturday [13th August 1853], Isaac Maude, of Greetland, farmer, was charged by Mary Brooke, the wife of Joseph Brooke, with having on Easter Monday, pulled a hook out of a wall and let her clothes-line down; after which, for some whim or other, he trampled upon the clothes. In defence, he alleged that the line was hung across a fold over which the public had right of road; but it was proved that the fold is private property, and that defendant had done the act out of spite.

He was fined, penalty and costs 49/-

On 9th October 1893, a warehouse owned by Maude was badly damaged by fire.

On 25th September 1873, he married Mary Hannah Lees at Halifax Parish Church.

He was a woollen manager [1861] / a woollen manufacturer in Elland [1871].

On 10th March 1859, he married Ellen Whiteley [1830-1906] at Halifax Parish Church.


Ellen was the daughter of Samuel Whiteley

Probate records show that he left a personal estate valued at under £8,000. Probate was granted to his widow Ellen, Ramsden Scarborough of Elland (schoolmaster) and John Henry Stott of Brighouse (cotton spinner) 

Ellen and daughters Lucy Hannah, Sarah Jane and Emily all died at Ravenswood, the daughters never married.

Members of the family were buried at St Thomas's Church, Greetland

In 1901, he was living (on own means) at Oak Road, Withington, Lancashire with visitors Laura E. Barnett [b Potterspury, Northamptonshire 1870], & Lily Barnett [b Greetland 1895], and servant Barbara Baker.

In 1906, he married Barbara Sophia Baker [1875-19??] in Liverpool.


Barbara was born in Sharleston, Wakefield
 

They lived at Poulton, Bare & Terrisholme, Morecambe [1911].

Living with them [in 1911] was niece Lily Barnett [b 1895].


On 29th May 1908, a Barbara Maude (born in Halifax 1875, age 33), arrived in Boston, Massachusetts from Liverpool aboard the Saxonia

[1892-1916] Son of Robert Walter Maude.

Born in Heckmondwike.

He was a member of St Paul's Church, King Cross / an apprentice watch maker [1911] / employed by Martin & Sheard, watch & clock makers / employed at the L. & Y. Railway Station, Halifax.

In 1911, he was living with his mother Betsy and stepfather Fred Marsden at 58 Woodside View, Haley Hill, Halifax.

During World War I, he enlisted [7th September 1914], and served as a Corporal with the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

He was wounded at Hill 60 [April 1916].

He was killed in action at Les Boeufs, Somme [12th October 1916].

He was buried at the Guards' Cemetery, Lesboeufs, France [VI AA 3].

He is remembered on the Memorial at Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance.

His brother Private Albert Maude was captured at the Battle of Mons, and held in a German prison camp from 5th September 1914

[1807-1???] MRCS (Lond), LWSAL. Born in Elland.

He was a surgeon at Elland [1861].

He married Mary Ann.
