Orm

[10??-11??]

It is possible that this may be the same Orm son of Gamal who is mentioned on a sun-dial at St Gregory's Minster in Kirkdale, Yorkshire. The sun-dial has the following Anglo-Saxon inscription:

+ ORM GAMAL SVNA BOHTE SANCTVS GREGORIVS MINSTER ÐONNE HIT WES ÆL TOBROCAN & TOFALAN & HE HIT LET MACAN NEWAN FROM GRVNDE CRISTE & SANCTVS GREGORIVS IN EADWARD DAGVM CYNING & IN TOSTI DAGVM EORL + + ÞIS IS DÆGES SOLMERCA + ÆT ILCVM TIDE + & HAWARÐ ME WROHTE & BRAND PRESBYTERI

This can be translated as:

Orm, Gamal's son, bought St Gregory's Minster when it was all broken and fallen in and he let it be made new from the ground for Christ and St Gregory in Edward's days as King and in Tosti's days as Earl. + This is the day's sun-mark + at each time + and Haward made me and Brand the Presbyter
