He was a cotton weaver.

During World War I, he served as a Private with the West Riding Regiment.

He survived the War.

He died April 1922 (aged 34).

He was buried 17th April 1922.

He is remembered in the book Royd Regeneration.

[1906-1944] Elder son of Jack Standeven.

He married Barbara Southworth [1909-1987] from Clitheroe, Lancashire and Anglesey.

He died at Longlands, Lightcliffe, and was buried at Rylstone.

In 1946, his widow married Anthony Brooke from Oxfordshire and London

[1851-1930] Son of John Standeven.

Born in Halifax [22nd April 1851].

He was educated at Park Place Academy.

He (possibly) trained as an accountant and worked in the offices of John Foster & Son Limited.

Around 1855, he established business at Mixenden with Sam Earnshaw as Standeven, Earnshaw & Company. The business eventually became J. W. Standeven & Company Limited.

From 1870 to 1888, he was choirmaster at Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church, Halifax.

In May 1878, he married Mary Ann (Marian) Crockford [1855-1924] from Horncastle, Lincolnshire, at Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church, Halifax.


Marian was the daughter of David Crockford of Lincolnshire

In 1922, he gave money for rebuilding the church in memory of his mother, Charlotte.

On 20th September 1924, in memory of his wife, Mary who died in April of the same year, he gave £10,000 to Crossley & Porter School as an endowment for reducing orphans' fees.

In 1928, he gave £3,500 towards the rebuilding of the organ at Halifax Parish Church

He was buried in the family mausoleum at St Peter's Church, Rylstone, Skipton in Craven

Standeven, Maurice Crowther
[1897-1915] Son of Crowther Standeven.

He was a shop assistant (drapers) at J. Walker Clark [1911] / a member of Steep Lane Baptist Church, Sowerby.

During World War I, he served as a Private with the 1st/4th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

He was killed in Belgium by being shot through the stomach whilst returning to the HQ after delivering a message [13th August 1915] (aged 18).

He was buried at the Colne Valley Cemetery, Belgium, Boesinghe [D 17]. A memorial service was held at Steep Lane Baptist Church.

He is remembered on the Memorial at Saint Peter's Church, Sowerby, and on the Memorial at Steep Lane Baptist Church, Sowerby
